Show and Tell 2
Welcome to Neverrong. Read along here for any and all juicy tidbits and links you may have missed along the way. Listen to the FULL EPISODE here.
Intro:
A quick run-down before we get started. We’ll be alternating between full-length (hard-hitting?) episodes on trends and history and then we’ll do these shorter (and more fun?) show and tell episodes where each of us brings a topic and we riff it out.
David’s Spiel: Psycho-Prison Swag
David claims he “stays shopping,” which is a total lie. He hardly ever buys anything, which makes his show and tell extremely exciting. Via an ad deal at Heddels, he discovered a store called Haku in Osaka, Japan.
Haku has a robust selection of Moonstar shoes, a Japanese manufacturer that mostly makes reproduction-style high-end vulcanized canvas sneakers. (Shoes Like Pottery is probably their most famous venture - firing shoes in a kiln to vulcanize them.)
All that is to say, we were surprised by the HOSP 810 shoes, which is kind of a mule, kind of a sandal, kind of a Stan Smith for someone who’s been taken away by the men in white coats. Bulbous, totally bizarre, and pretty hard to pair with anything other than a backless hospital gown, we applaud David for this bonkers purchase.
Reed’s Spiel: Mesh Short Hyper-Fixation
Reed is a man of deep dives. In the past he’s delved into the world of navy sweaters - and more recently he immersed himself in what he calls “slutty knits” - loosely knit shirts and sweaters that show a whole lot of skin.
But his latest hyper-fixation (this was a few weeks ago when things were hotter) has been mesh gym shorts. He began his quest with the above Lacrosse Shorts from American Trench and then, being Reed, he went even deeper, finding the man who makes these shorts for American Trench. This fellow has his own brand called Relax Lacrosse
Reed says they’re “fuckin’ awesome” and calls them 90s bully-core, in the best way.
.
Next up in his un-ending quest was the Manresa Corn Neck shorts, which he climbs in. Among these shorts virtues is an excellent almost underwear-like inner lining. David and Albert disagree somewhat on their philosophies on liners in shorts, but they take Reed’s word that these are very good (all Manresa is!).
Last up is this pair of Umbro-inspired shorts from All Time High. ATH has been kind of a ifykyk type brand that has swept like wildfire through our niche of menswear. Reed keeps having the experience of complimenting a “vintage” piece worn by one of our tasteful friends and learning it’s not vintage at all, it’s ATH!
Now it’s going to get cold and Reed will have to hyper-fixate on a new kind of pant.
Albert’s Spiel:
Albert shows and tells about some recent gifted goodness he’s received. Most prominently, he loves his Knickerbocker x Fracap collab low-top hikers. They’re chunky and comfy and kind of a step outside his usual footwear choices. He’s been a fan of Knickerbocker for forever and even bought their very first footwear collab ages ago - a pair of Kleman Padrors they did way back.
Bare Knuckles sent Albert their Hickory Stripe Service Pant and he wasn’t sure he’d love them until they arrived. Not usually a fan of a hickory stripe (it can feel too train conductor), but the wash and fit of these pants are just perfect. They’ve been dialing in the fit and the quality is sensational. Thumbs up.
And not gifted, Albert bought himself a pair of Paraboot Bergerac boots, which hadn’t arrived at the time of recording, but are excellent. He especially (and David too) wanted a pair of their tan suede collab boots with Arpenteur, but those are a bit difficult to get ahold of.
That’s all folks, you’ve been shown and you’ve been told!
